July 2007 NEWSLETTER Click this Month's Highlighted News:The Santa Fe Area Homebuilders ...• write the Governor's Green Building Tax Credit Legislation.• write the State and Local codes.• work with the State and City of Santa Fe to create a Green Building Standards Program.• work with Santa Fe Historical Building Department.• go to Washington D.C.• endorse the 20/30 Challenge.• produces its first Green Expo Show!SFAHBA WRITES THE GOVERNORS GREEN BUILDING TAX CREDIT LEGISLATION Local members met with State Representative Peter Wirth to write the legislation which passed at the last minute to provide a 5 million tax credit for Homes meeting Green Standards found in “Build Green New Mexico” a local version of the National Home Builders Green Guidelines - now finalizing the rules for application and certification. SFAHBA WRITES THE STATE AND LOCAL CODES. Public hearings are scheduled for July 16 around the State for input on the proposed State Building Codes – Including but not limited to: International Building Code; International Residential Code; International Energy Conservation Code; Earthen Materials Building Code – Santa Fe 9am @ CID. Representatives of SFAHBA have been working with the State of New Mexico cities and counties on these final versions. SFAHBA WORKS WITH THE STATE AND CITY OF SANTA FE TO CREATE A GREEN BUILDING STANDARDS PROGRAM. We have proposed a special pilot program to the State of New Mexico and are setting up a council in the City of Santa Fe to oversee a Green program based on performance standards. SFAHBA WORKS WITH SANTA FE HISTORICAL BUILDING DEPARTMENT. Is there an environmental fit for Historic Buildings? This is being looked into locally and a “Green Strategies for Historical Districts” conference is set for Santa Fe on September 20 and 21st of this year. SFAHBA GOES TO WASHINGTON D.C. Members of the New Mexico Home Building “Contingency” met with Senators Domenici and Bingaman; Representatives Pearce, Udall and Wilson; staff members from the Senate Energy Committee and the House Committee on Immigration in June. The two topics of discussion were centered on environmentally sensitive (Green) Building and the proposed Immigration legislation. SFAHBA ENDORSES THE 20/30 CHALLENGE. The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association representing over 800 member firms in Northern New Mexico formally endorses the concepts and objectives of the 20/30 “Challenge” while continuing to build to our mission of supplying all Americans with shelter in a responsible, affordable and environmentally sensitive manner. SFAHBA TO PRODUCE ITS FIRST GREEN EXPO SHOW. This show is scheduled for September 29 & 30th at the De Vargas Mall. We expect a large response to this timely issue and are excited about establishing this as a yearly exposition for the general public to display the latest products and services in this field. |
