BACKGROUND OF THE COUNCIL

The Santa Fe Green Building Council was established by the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association in January 1, 2008. 

The Santa Fe Green Building Council has been working with the City of Santa Fe and other agencies to actively promote Green Building and Green Building practices.

The Council is recruiting the support of government, builders, and associated businesses by promoting membership in the Santa Fe Green Building Council. 
The objectives of this Council are as follows:

a) To encourage ethical conduct, good business practices, and professionalism in the practice of green building.

b) To promote cooperative action in advancing by all lawful means the common purpose of its members.

c) To promote sustainable and energy efficient construction practices and homes in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

d) To reduce the carbon footprint of homes. 

e) To sponsor educational programs and activities for the benefit of its members and the public.

f) To recommend such legislation and regulations which can help stimulate green building practices and to recommend corrective action for those laws, rules or regulations which tend to discourage or impede green building practices.

g) To promote the common business interests of those engaged in the green building industry.

h) To promote and administer programs to certify Green Building practices.

i) To conduct or engage in all lawful activities in furtherance of the foregoing purposes, or incidental thereto.
